Let's Play 2... at Historic League Park!
This weekend, the Three Cities travel to historic League Park in Cleveland's Hough neighborhood for 2 games:
12:45 PM @ Aviators (7 innings)
3:15 PM vs Erie Coast Cubs (9 innings)
League Park was opened in 1891 and served as home to the National League's Cleveland Spiders, the American League's Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Buckeyes of the Negro American League until 1950. Following that league's disbanding, most of the structure of the stadium was demolished the next year.
Restoration was completed in 2014, and League Park reopened for baseball with a fieldturf surface, maintaining the original's footprint. As part of the renovation, the Baseball Heritage Museum (housing artifacts from baseball history as well as many specifically from the history of League Park) was relocated from downtown Cleveland to the restored ticket house.
It is located at the northeast corner of Lexington Avenue and E. 66th Street. Parking is on the side streets (66th and 70th) & Lexington or on the street down left field line (Linwood). As of right now, the Museum will not be open, but we've requested it to be either before the first game or between the two.
If you haven't been to the Baseball Heritage Museum, it's attached to the field, and open every Saturday from 10 to 2. This Saturday (7/22) there's a "Latinos in Baseball" exhibit (from the Smithsonian) that shouldn't be missed. You can read more about that exhibit here.
