Walkoff!!!
The first game of the scheduled double-header for the Three Cities on Sunday opened up with a shock - when the team found themselves down a quick 10 runs to the Dirtbags through 1.5 innings. The offense was able to put 3 runs up to close the gap slightly in the bottom of the 2nd, but with starter Mike Muller chased, found themselves with the uphill climb of a monumental comeback along with saving arms for the expected nightcap of the DH vs the Orioles.
Luckily the bullpen was more than up to the challenge, as Lawrence Stepp, Alex Romero and Mike Kaffel held the Dirtbags to a combined 2 runs on only 4 hits the rest of the way, which still left the TCBC crew trailing 10-9 entering the bottom of the 9th.
But again the team answered the call, when with 2-men on and 2 strikes against him, Cory Smith planted a long drive over the left-center wall at Rocky River High School for a walk-off 3 run homerun to culminate the comeback! Final score: Dirtbags 10 - TCBC 12
The second game of the double header was not without its own fireworks, but behind the powerful pitching performance of Jimmy Paskell, who tossed a CG gem, Three Cities were able to improve their season record to 12-3 entering the final week. Final score: TCBC 7 - Orioles 2
